The Jewellery Quarter BID and sister projects JQ Townscape Heritage and JQ Cemeteries Project, are offering a total of 3 video commissions for a value of £250 each as part of a West Midlands wide initiative spearheaded by Culture Central.
On the 21st of December, the shortest day of the year and the last Monday before Christmas, hundreds of 60-seconds video commissions will be premiered online responding to the prompt “It Gets Lighter From Here”. If you are a local Midlands artist we want to hear from you!

Commission Brief:
We are looking for three West Midlands based artists to create 60-seconds worth of content each, responding to the prompt “It Gets Lighter From Here” and inspired by the Jewellery Quarter.
Criteria:
- Artists can be working across any media (dance, sculpture, spoken word, filmmaking etc) and may be at any point in their career, including students.
- Final output must be in the form of a 60-second video.
- Final videos must include subtitles (assistance can be provided if needed).
- JQBID Commission: Commissions will creatively explore the themes of “It Gets Lighter From Here” and “The Jewellery Quarter”.
- JQTH Project Commission: Commissions will creatively explore the themes of “It Gets Lighter From Here” inspired by The JQ People’s Archive
- JQ Cemeteries Project Commission: Commissions will creatively explore the themes of “It Gets Lighter From Here” inspired by our “Cemeteries and Community in lockdown” gallery
- Applications must be for new work not already in the public domain.

Please send an email with the following information to info@jqdt.org with the subject line “Video Commission for JQBID/ JQTH/ JQ Cemeteries” (depending on which commission you are interested in).

Application Deadline: 5pm on Thursday 3rd December 2020
Commissions confirmed: We will aim to notify the successful applicants by the end of Friday 4th December.
Payment: £250 for each commission
Delivery Date: The final videos must be delivered to the JQBID/JQTH Project/ JQ Cemeteries by 17th December 2020
